We welcome the news regarding planning that was announced in the autumn budget of 2021. The UK planning system can be a prolonged process and difficult to navigate. A lack of funding and resource can result in planning decisions delays and ultimately development programme slippage. “Hopefully the Government £65m investment in a long-awaited digitalisation of the process with visible local plans will enable a streamlining of the process”, says Dean Watson Managing Director.

Another positive to come out of the budget is the Government’s intention to boost funding for skills and training within the construction sector. Wakemans currently invest in the training of several undergraduates studying Construction and the Built environment as Apprentices. “It can be a challenge to encourage youngsters towards a career in professional construction, more funding can only assist to raise the profile of the industry and career opportunities”. remarks Dean.
