Congratulations to Knowle & Dorridge Racquets Club which, with a little help from our own James Shelley, will be playing in Men’s Division 1 of the Coventry & District Lawn Tennis League next year.
James, along with Club captain, Alistair Clark Managing Director of AC Lloyd Homes, are members of an improving team, which ended the 2019 season as runner up in Men’s Division 2. It was enough to secure automatic promotion to Division 1 for 2020.
During a busy five months between April and August there were home and away fixtures against David Lloyd Club Coventry, Warwick Boat Club, Nuneaton Lawn Tennis Club, Hampton in Arden Tennis Club, Coventry & North Warwickshire Sports Club, Beechwood Lawn Tennis Club and Ardencote Manor Tennis Club. Knowle & Dorridge Racquets Club lost only one tie during its entire campaign to finish a single point behind Nuneaton.
The Knowle club is also hoping to continue its run of success in the Men’s Winter League. The A team of over-45 players got their 2019/20 season off to an excellent start, taking victory in their opening tie in Division 1 of the Warwickshire Men’s Veteran League. The Club has an enviable track record in this League, having won its third Division 1 title in a row in 2018/19.
James is also a member of Streetly Tennis Club, which faced tough opposition from tennis clubs based in Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Edgbaston, Knowle & Dorridge and Moseley in Division 2 of the Birmingham Area League. A concerted effort saw Streetly Tennis Club finish the 2019 season in a highly respectable fourth place.
Finally, James has enjoyed a good season representing Warwickshire’s over-50s in the 2019 Seniors’ Inter-County Championships. Warwickshire played five matches, posting victories against Devon, Gloucestershire and County Durham, and finished third in Men’s Division 1.
Well done to James, and Alistair, on these fine achievements and good luck to them and Knowle & Dorridge Racquets Club’s veterans for the 2019/20 season.
