James Shelley is client services director at Wakemans, responsible for marketing, business development and client relationships across the practice. He works closely with sector directors to support ongoing projects and partnerships, helping maintain Wakemans’ strong reputation across the leisure and hotels, industrial and logistics, and residential sectors.
James brings a clear focus on long-term relationships and strategic growth, and played a key role in securing and supporting one of the Midlands’ most high-profile recent projects — Amazon’s facility in Redditch. That scheme, project-managed by the Wakemans team, remains a standout moment in his career.

What would you add to your dream home?
It would have to be a tennis court — no question.
How do you spend your time outside work?
I’m a passionate tennis player — and not many people know I played against Dan Evans a few times when he was still a schoolboy. (I still lost, of course.) I also enjoy a good game of pool, though I’m regularly beaten by several of my Wakemans colleagues!
What historic building would you love to work on?
The Natural History Museum — the architecture is extraordinary, and it has a real presence.
